Racketeer… a name with a wry nod to a simple truth: when something is genuinely worth having, people will go to extraordinary lengths to claim it.
In 2011, Blake Ragghianti set out to reinvent spiced rum. In 2015, he founded a distillery to pursue that vision in earnest. Years of experimentation and persistence led to a breakthrough in 2018, when his original formula, then called Bliss 1895, was entered into its first professional competition, the New York International Spirits Competition. It was also Ragghianti’s first-ever competition entry.
The rum won Double Gold and earned the title of Spiced Rum Distiller of the Year.
The rum quickly developed a loyal following and, in time, became the subject of highly contentious legal battles as various outsiders clamored to claim ownership of the secret recipe. The claims were ultimately dismissed with prejudice in Ragghianti’s favor. By then, however, he had already moved on… deeper into the craft itself.
What followed was a more exacting approach to botanical selection, a more refined steeping and dilution method, and a proprietary blending, aging, and micro oxygenation process more often associated with the world of fine wine.
Today, Racketeer Spiced Rum is the culmination of more than fifteen years of research, experimentation, and refinement.
